Very Short Tales - Anthology

"ls it really necessary to sleep everyday?" She wanted to know.
"Of course!" He replied. "How will you dream of me otherwise?"

                                                                         ***
"This will never conclude," he said.
"So what? Who said all stories have to have an end?" She smiled.

                                                                        ***
"I'm not a freak", she said.
"I don't care", he said, "I still love staring at you!"

                                                                       ***

"I'm scared." She said staring at him from beneath her lashes.
"Why? I'm with you. Ain't I?" He said with a brash air.
"Maybe that's why..." She said with a twinkle in her eye and giggled.

                                                                       ***

She sighed staring at the ceiling, 'he's not going to settle for just one - me! No, he'll still keep a lookout for more.'
He tossed in bed thinking, 'why does she need an exclusive deal? Isn't what we have enough for her?'
Outside their respective windows, thunder clapped and rain started splattering on the tightly shut panes. It was cold and lonely in both their bedrooms.

                                                                     ***

"I love you," he said.
"I know," she answered.
"Is that all?" He asked, hurt.
"Is that not enough that your secret is safe with me?" She smiled.
'Why were women so vague?' He thought transfixed by the power of a smile.

                                                                   ***

"Don't let your hands shake when you pour the tea," instructed ma.
She looked at her with pleading eyes. "Can't the servant do this?"
"Do you think they are coming over to 'see' the servant and get their son married to her?" came ma's irritated reply.
"Don't you think so too? I thought they wanted a servant who can pour tea for their son without spilling it on his pants!"

                                                                   ***

"Look here," he pleaded. She could not... End of story.

Love walks in, says, "Can I stay?"A scared me shuts the door on its face thinking, "Can it be so easy?" Love walks away.End of story.

Over a Cuppa"What do you think of love?" He asked."I think it is a surefire way to inflict self-injuries," she quipped droll faced and laughed as he blanched. He gulped down his tea and looked away at another table, another pretty face. She continued laughing, the sound of a hundred ankle bells ringing on a naughty child's feet.End of story.

"I'm vermilion where you touched me," she giggled.
"What? Why do you have to speak in poetry all the time?" He sighed staring at her. But, his look seared her heart and his mischievous half-smile turned to mush, her steady knees. She turned red all over and looked away, giggles forgotten in the tide of crimson. He kept smiling, enjoying her discomfort and the many hues of the color red.

"Love is not a card that you buy at a gift shop," she said."I know. But, I'm no good with words." He pleaded with his eyes."How about action?" She laughed.Rain stopped pouring in that moment and a rainbow peeped out of nowhere to see, 'what next?'He looked at her eyes trying to read if it was a trap but, could not fathom a thing. Her smile almost killed him with its enigma.
"Did she mean it? Really mean it?" He worried and the moment passed into the next.
The rainbow faded back into space and the raindrops started beating on the rooftop once more. But, all he heard was the pitter-patter singing of the drops, " You lost the chance..." in a chorus.
'Did he really have a chance?' He wondered looking at the ground. Lost in deep thought.
She sighed and turned around. "Will he ever get the hint?"
End of story.
